ABOUT
BL
Bryan Lawson is a powerhouse bass player and performer from Springfield, Missouri who has been wowing audiences for over 30 years.
Bryan Lawson began on guitar at age 11 and in his first band at age 14. Switched from playing guitar to Bass guitar after a couple of years after finding more need for bass players than guitar players, quickly finding his talent.
By age 16 Bryan began to tour with a band called Thrust, touring the east coast of the United States, Maine to Mississippi. By 1985, after Thrust losing its front man to family life, a new front man and a new guitar player were brought in to reform the band under the name Naked Zoo. This union proved to be very successful, touring the US from 1986-1992, gaining a legion of loyal fans along the way. Playing both covers and originals, putting on an incredible show. Naked Zoo released 2 albums of original songs, one of these receiving radio air play, and a music video. Since 2006 the band has played several reunion shows to packed venues.
By 1993 after 8 years, the decadence of the 80’s had given way to a new time in music. Bryan decided to leave Naked Zoo to partner up with another local talent, guitar player Bill Bruce to form the band Insane Society. Playing Alternative covers and writing great originals.
The next band was Open Fire (Frankie Howell). After several line-up changes during his time with Open Fire, Bryan decided to take a new direction. A band was formed with a talented little known female singer, and he brought in original Naked Zoo drummer Terry Lawson. Band was called 2nd Nature. During this time Bryan also began using his natural ear for music and bass skills doing studio and fill-in work in Springfield and theaters in Branson, Missouri.
In 2000, Bryan connected with talented song writer musician Art Bentley. They started touring and recording, releasing 2 CDs of original songs.
In 2001, Bryan received a call from Branson, Missouri to do a tour with the Osmond Brothers. He had 2 weeks to learn the full show and all the songs. For the next 11 years Bryan was the Bass player for the Osmond Brothers, Merrill Osmond Solo and a stint with Marie, in the United States and Europe. Finally getting to share his talent and charisma to large crowds. Even playing Wimbley 4 times.
In 2005 Bryan Lawson became bass player for Las Vegas performer Tony Roi – The Elvis Experience, but after only a year he chose to go with the permanent gig with the Osmond Brothers.
During the next chapter from then until 2011, Bryan recruited other talented hometown musicians he had previously played with into the Osmond Band and when not on tour the band picked up a singer/front man and played under the name The Dropouts. They played both the US and UK on their own standing and won 2 hometown awards.
An unexpected life altering experience for Bryan came at the end of 2010, being diagnosed with Head and Neck Cancer from unknown origin. During this time he continued to show just what he was made of by still playing and performing with the Osmonds and Dropouts, never missing a beat! He endured 2 surgeries and 6 weeks of daily Radiation, all the time continuing to tour and play. To this day says it was the music career, the complete support from his family and friends, the fans, and the power of prayers from around the world that kept him positive and gave him the strength to beat it!
Sadly, between Bryan’s second surgery and beginning Radiation, in the Spring of 2011, Jimmy Osmond had decided to go a new direction with the band and the Brothers shows and his assistant gave Bryan the shocking news days before he was to go on tour. Bryan being the always professional performer, living “the show must go on mentality” continued to play with his band The Dropouts until August later that year.
Bryan met a Branson singer songwriter named Krista Meadows and Drummer Daniel Dossey, they put together their talents and formed a band called Our Majesty which filled his longing for playing again and going forward.
Later that year Bryan was contacted once again by Tony Roi who had heard of Bryan being available and snatched him up to play with him and be the Musical Director for the Branson show The Elvis Experience as well as touring. During this time he also joined with former bandmate Scott Snow from Naked Zoo putting together a much needed unique sound of heavy rock style back into the Springfield area under the name KHROME. (2012-2015)
In 2014 Bryan hooked up with several other talented Branson performers which eventually led him into playing with several acts in the new Branson Tribute Theater. Performing in Tributes to Journey, Eagles, BonJovi, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Lynyrd Skynyrd Southern Rock show. This kept Bryan entertaining audiences with his bass skills and energetic performances for 6 years.
Recently, Bryan felt like he needed to take a break from playing one theater and is currently playing with Springfield area bands, Plush (90’s Alternative), Blue Contagion (back with Art Bentley playing bluesy rock), Naked Zoo ‘92, and the Dropouts. As always, leaving his options open as a free agent for that next big opportunity to come. Have passport will travel!
